Ford Mustang II Cobra uit 1977
Een Ford Mustang II Cobra uit 1977 is een speciale sportieve uitvoering van de tweede generatie Ford Mustang (1974-1978). De Mustang II was compacter en zuiniger dan de oorspronkelijke Mustang en verscheen na de oliecrisis van de vroege jaren '70. Hoewel deze generatie vaak bekritiseerd werd omdat hij kleiner en minder krachtig was, werd hij toch commercieel succesvol.
De Mustang II Cobra uit 1977 onderscheidde zich vooral door:
- Uiterlijke kenmerken: Opvallende striping ("Cobra"-graphics) op de carrosserie, een frontspoiler, achterspoiler, luchtinlaten op de motorkap en specifieke lichtmetalen velgen.
- Motorisering: Meestal voorzien van een 5.0-liter (302 cubic inch) V8-motor, die destijds ongeveer 140 pk leverde. In sommige gevallen was ook een minder krachtige 2.8-liter V6 leverbaar.
- Imago: Hoewel de prestaties naar hedendaagse maatstaven bescheiden waren, sprak de auto dankzij zijn opvallende uiterlijk en sportieve uitstraling vooral jonge kopers aan.
Vandaag wordt de Mustang II Cobra gezien als een interessante klassieker die steeds populairder wordt bij verzamelaars en liefhebbers van de geschiedenis van Amerikaanse muscle cars.
