BENETTON RENAULT B194 - JOS VERSTAPPEN - GERMAN GP 1994
The 1994 German Grand Prix at Hockenheim was a memorable race, especially for Jos Verstappen. The Dutch driver, who was in his rookie season with Benetton-Ford, experienced a terrifying moment during a pit stop that shocked the motorsport world.
During lap 15, Verstappen entered the pits for a routine tire change and refueling. However, things went horribly wrong. A fuel leak caused vapors to ignite upon contact with hot components, engulfing the Benetton B194 in a massive fireball. Verstappen and several mechanics were surrounded by flames as panic erupted in the pit lane. Verstappen and crew where only mildly wounded and back at the track in the next few races.
