Tijdens de Franse Grand Prix van 1988, gehouden op 3 juli 1988 op Circuit Paul Ricard, reed Philippe Streiff voor het team AGS (Automobiles Gonfaronnaises Sportives). Hij bestuurde de AGS JH23, aangedreven door een Ford-Cosworth V8-motor.
Streiff wist zich te kwalificeren en startte de race vanaf 20e positie. Helaas wist hij de finish niet te halen, omdat hij in ronde 51 uitviel met een probleem aan de ophanging. Dit was een van de vele moeilijke races voor AGS, een klein privéteam dat worstelde om competitief te blijven tegen de grotere fabrikanten.
Streiff was een ervaren en geliefde Franse coureur, maar zijn Formule 1-carrière eindigde abrupt in 1989, toen hij tijdens een test op Jacarepaguá (Brazilië) een zware crash had die hem verlamd achterliet. Na zijn ongeluk bleef hij betrokken bij motorsport en zette hij zich in voor gehandicapte sporters.
